Safe Driving

Safe Driving courses - NEK VT

The Safe Driving Program is designed to help you understand the real‑life consequences of unsafe, impaired, and distracted driving. Throughout this two-session program, you will explore how dangerous driving behaviors impact not only you, but also your family, friends, and the broader community. You will hear presentations from individuals who have been harmed by impaired driving, as well as from drivers who have caused crashes.

This two-session program was originally created by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), and we have adapted it to address a wide range of behaviors that affect road safety. We emphasize an important distinction between the behavior and the person—we condemn the unsafe action, not the individual who engaged in it. We believe that people are capable of making meaningful changes when given information that is relevant, relatable, and empowering.

Our goal is to motivate individuals to take responsibility for actions behind the wheel, to reflect on the choices they make while driving, and to inspire them to create thier own plan for being a safe and responsible driver. This means committing to drive only when sober, avoiding substances that impair judgment or reaction time, and refusing to text or engage in other distracting behaviors that put the driver—and others—at risk of injury or death.
