Transitional Housing

Transitional Housing

NEKCA oversees multiple contracts with the Vermont Dept. of Corrections (DOC) to provide structured, supportive & partially supervised housing for inmates that cannot get out of the correctional facilities do to a lack of appropriate housing. Referrals come directly from the local Probation & Parole offices to a case manager, who then interviews the person for suitability in to the house. If accepted the individual works with the case manager to address needs of housing, sustainability, employment, health needs (physical & emotional) and life skills. There is a 9 month time frame for the participants to get everything set up and to move into their own place. They can come back for follow up and supportive services with the case manager.

We also have a staff person that gets referrals from the local Probation & Parole office for individuals that do not want to go to the transitional housing programs, but need assistance in finding appropriate housing. Staff work with the participants to address the same needs as mentioned above and hopefully find them their own place to move into right from the correctional facility.
